The Călărași Fairville Lab : presentation

Updated: Mar 27, 2023

Călărași, a city of 65,000 inhabitants is a typical shrinking city profile, with a large share of its population living in deteriorated low- income neighbourhoods. Within this context two neighbourhoods inhabited by the Roma population (one planned and deteriorated and the other is an “occupation”) will be researched as on-going co-production place between local residents communities, Frontal association and the municipality.

The Roma population: a marginalized community

This pilot interrogates the potential of co-production for both supporting the inclusion of one of Europe's most marginalized communities, and addressing the material expressions of housing and urban service inequalities.

A co-production challenge

It will also develop insights into the challenge of developing co-production practices in contexts of advanced marginality.
